Burning the Candle at Both Ends

Do you sometimes feel that work takes precedence over everything else? Maybe you missed your daughter’s spring concert or your son’s home run. The hours you work, the weekends you are on call, or the projects you are assigned can impact stress levels in a major way.

Any job can have stressful elements, even if you love what you do, but when work stress becomes chronic, it can be overwhelming. This can have a negative impact on your physical and emotional health. Learning how to decompress after a tough day can be a challenging task. Enhancing emotional resilience takes effort but it is an investment in your future wellbeing.

Noticing how you feel when you are stressed can be the first step in finding ways to cope. Stress can present itself mentally and physically.  Try to start with a body scan. Think of a gentle searchlight and notice how you feel from head to toe.  Allow yourself to be aware of how your body feels right now. Physically, stress can feel like: tense shoulders, grinding teeth, headache, fatigue or frequent colds.  Illness and physical somatic symptoms are your body’s way of telling you to take a break and slow down.   Getting sick and taking a day off is your body’s way of telling you to physically stop – take a sick day and give yourself some TLC. If you don’t pick a day to relax, your body will pick one for you.

Breathe a sigh of relief knowing that we offer workshops to review clear steps to achieve emotional wellness in the workplace. Learn to implement key strategies that will have a positive impact on your day-to-day living, and restore your overall sense of well being.
